In keeping with our annual tradition of releasing spooky merch for Halloween, we are proud to offer our ALICE tee. Inspired by the film ALICE, SWEET ALICE, it features our take on the killer’s unique look and masked face. Why this you ask? Well, it was filmed right here in New Jersey…Paterson to be specific. Available online and in-store now! Wonderfully designed by friend of the shop @laurenzilla

1976’s ALICE, SWEET ALICE is a grim, atmospheric psychological proto-slasher film about a troubled young girl, Alice Spages (Brooke Shields first role!), who becomes the prime suspect after her younger sister Karen is murdered during her First Communion. With its creepy religious imagery, unsettling performances, Italian giallo influence, and uniquely masked killer, the film helped lay the groundwork for the slasher boom that followed, blending Catholic guilt, family dysfunction, and urban dread into something far nastier than a typical ‘whodunnit’. Its filming in Paterson, New Jersey, gives the movie an especially gritty, authentic character, grounding its horror in the worn down apartment buildings, neighborhood streets, and working class atmosphere of a real New Jersey city. Long before horror fans started celebrating every location shoot, Paterson was already part of the nightmare.
