Every scene has its known centers, the cities and countries where black metal is written into the history books. But this music has never stayed politely inside its borders. It travels through tape trading, forums, encrypted links, small labels, and word of mouth. Sooner or later it lands somewhere unexpected and takes root in a way no one predicted.

Today's conversation comes from one of those places.

Our guests are Sapientia ov Atlantis @sapientiaovatlantis , a black metal band from Colombo, in Sri Lanka's Western Province. Their name alone tells you they are not interested in the usual vocabulary of the genre. "Sapientia" is the Latin word for wisdom. "Atlantis" is the sunken civilization that has haunted human imagination for more than two thousand years. Together they suggest knowledge that was lost, drowned, and perhaps waiting to be recovered by those willing to descend.
