I’ve been thinking about this lately.

We’re taught to protect ourselves.

Don’t give too much.
Don’t care too much.
Don’t go too far for people who wouldn’t do the same for you.

And maybe sometimes that’s necessary.

Some people will disappoint you.

Some won’t stay.

Some things you give your whole heart to won’t give anything back.

That’s life.

But I’d rather have lived generously than spend my life calculating what everything is worth before I give it.

Train hard.
Love people.
Learn things.
Take the trip.
Build something.
Give more than you’re comfortable giving sometimes.

Not because everyone deserves it.

Because you want to be that kind of person.

Maybe that’s the part worth protecting.

Not your expectations.

Your capacity to care.
