6 days agoWhen you find the key to life, enjoy it!!! Playing football was amazing. Refereeing grassroots was and is amazing. But there were 9 years, inbetveen, when I was 24 and had to stop playing in the best division, because of injuries, that was hard. Never ever thought of end in my life, but it was hard , so drinking was always so easy instead, so I often choose that route. But in sep 2012 when I did not turn up to a match in best women’s division as a ref, I quit to choose a beer just for the sake of it. Played in next best division and 3.division until I was 45 years old. Only ref for 10 matches in 3 best divison and women, but I tought even in 2012, that the rules where becomming more and more stupid for football, so I had no interest to continue as a ref in an ref government body, because it started to be about the refs in 2012, now it just about the refs and VAR , so my interest in football on television is non existing, because the IFAB, pro ref have totally destroyed the game!!! But now life is pure joy, played to 2021, still refereeing grassroots U7 to U15, used to be u17, but my knees can’t handle U17 anymore, with common sense , football understanding and using laws of the game , so it fits to football! It’s a pure joy to ref, just on single bad experience, the rest of the 612 games fantastic. Players, parents, coaches are fantastic. Looking at matches in best division is also fantastic, 50% of the refs have played the game before and there is no VAR, brilliant!! Today is sunny, family has it good, friends have it good I have it good, building a company is exciting, life is fantastic. There are always some up and downs, but it is brilliant , just brilliant! All the best in life❤️
10 days agoI don’t speak up because no one listens anyway, so I just struggle daily. It is what it is.
10 days agoWell done Dan, you are right regarding men not talking about depression.. . Without a little white tablet i dont think I would still be here. Good luck in your next chapter of your career and life 👏👏
10 days agoWell done for speaking up you are inspiration. Men feel ashamed of talking. Keep up the good work❤️
11 days agoUsing your platform to talk so openly about your struggles will inspire others to speak up about theirs, we need more of this 🙌
11 days agoSo important to speak out. I was speaking to an official within Proref the other week and I said I don’t think we are far away from something tragic happening. Really hope to god it doesn’t happen
11 days ago@danrobathan I wanted to end it all in 2013. Everything came to a head after a 2.2 draw. I went therapy and had no effect as I wasn't ready for it but, I own my life to one amazing friend who in 2017 talked me into trying therapy again. It was the best thing this friend has ever done for me, but some male friends have criticised me for over using the therapy services as I have had 6 batches of therapy in 9 years and I haven't seen my therapist in 18 months, as I now understand how important self care is
