Now that I’ve got your attention, today marks three years of especially brutal reality for the people in G@z@. That we have collectively let this terror unfold is a stain on all our souls.

I’m proud of myself for speaking out over the past three years but I’m also ashamed I kept my silence in ways and in places when I should have been braver and less scared. While it’s easy to say “I’m only human, you did what you could,” every life k!led in G@z@ was a fellow human. Every child that should have outlived me, I grieve for and pray for forgiveness.

How I will explain myself to my children when they ask what happened and why, why I didn’t speak up more or more loudly, I don’t quite know. But at least I’ll have an ounce of peace on my heart knowing my conscience is clear and will keep remembering.
