![Congratulations to Drs. Brittany Severino and Colleen Commisso on their publication in Pennsylvania Teacher Educator, “There Is More Than Paperwork! Preparing Pre-Service Special Education Teachers for the Daily Tasks of Case Management.” 👏⭐
A little about their research 📝: The various elements of case management are noted concerns for novice special education teachers, leading to burnout. To help reduce this concern, Drs. Commisso and Severino implemented a hands-on case management project within two 15-week courses to provide pre-service teachers with engaging activities that practice managing paperwork requirements, engaging in data collection, parent communication, IEP team member collaboration, in-person or virtual meetings, handling unexpected situations, and prioritizing time. Overall, pre-test compared to post-test survey results indicate significantly increased levels of preparedness for case management, with a continued need for support in their soon-to-be career.
