Any Education major who is eligible for and plans to student teach in the FALL 2027 SEMESTER must attend a pre-registration meeting to receive important student teaching information. 🍎📚

🏃‍♀️ The HPE Club @wcu_hpeclub gives our WCU students/HPE majors a chance to connect with one another and get involved outside of the classroom. Throughout the year, we offer general meetings, Pre-Professional Experience (PPE) opportunities, food drives and other service projects, Dine & Donates, volleyball tournaments, and other activities that bring our majors together.

🫶 We also love celebrating our HPE community. Through our social media, we feature HPE alumni and where their careers have taken them, as well as Senior Spotlights that recognize our graduating students and what they are doing next.

🏅 A special shoutout goes to the HPE Club's faculty advisor, Dr. Liz Dlugolecki for being awarded the WCU Thomas J. Purce Club/ Organization Advisor of the Year for her work with the HPE Club! Congrats again Dr. D!

Congratulations to Drs. Brittany Severino and Colleen Commisso on their publication in Pennsylvania Teacher Educator, “There Is More Than Paperwork! Preparing Pre-Service Special Education Teachers for the Daily Tasks of Case Management.” 👏⭐

A little about their research 📝: The various elements of case management are noted concerns for novice special education teachers, leading to burnout. To help reduce this concern, Drs. Commisso and Severino implemented a hands-on case management project within two 15-week courses to provide pre-service teachers with engaging activities that practice managing paperwork requirements, engaging in data collection, parent communication, IEP team member collaboration, in-person or virtual meetings, handling unexpected situations, and prioritizing time. Overall, pre-test compared to post-test survey results indicate significantly increased levels of preparedness for case management, with a continued need for support in their soon-to-be career.

Student Pennsylvania State Education Association (SPSEA) is the student branch of PSEA! 📝🏫📖 @spseaofwcupa

The President, Camryn Urbassik shared, "Through SPSEA, we connect with fellow aspiring educators, discuss current events and challenges in education, and build a community to strengthen the future of our profession."

Mission 💜: Student PSEA works to influence and improve the conditions of teacher preparation, provide for unified student voice in matters affecting their education and related profession, develop in future educators an understanding and appreciation for the education professional and the role of the professional education association, promote and protect human and civil rights of all students, and forward the aim of high quality, accessible education to stimulate the highest ideals of professional ethics, standards, and dispositions.
