100 years. One Church. One mission.
Pope Leo XIV has a special invitation for us as we prepare to celebrate the 100th anniversary of World Mission Sunday on October 18.
In a new video message, the Holy Father reflects on a century of prayer and generosity for the missions—and on his own connection to World Mission Sunday, from celebrating it as a boy in the United States to experiencing its support firsthand as a missionary in Peru.
What began in 1926 has helped accompany extraordinary growth in the missionary Church. Today, the Church's 1,131 mission territories are home to more than 346 million Catholics, 41,000 parishes, 124,000 Catholic schools and 26,000 social institutions.
And the mission continues.
This World Mission Sunday, Pope Leo invites each of us to pray, give and take our place in the Church's missionary family.
One in Christ, united in mission.
