Pope Leo XIV has chosen “The love of Christ sends us forth” (cf. 2 Cor 5:14) as the theme for the 101st World Mission Sunday, to be celebrated Oct. 24, 2027.

The theme points to the source of the Church’s missionary vocation: the love of Christ, received and lived out, which moves Christians to proclaim the Gospel and draw close to others, especially those who are lonely, poor or suffering.

As Pope Leo wrote in his message for World Mission Sunday 2026, “if unity is the condition of mission, love is its essence.”

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Mt 5:3)

On All Saints’ Day, the Church honors every saint in heaven, both the canonized and the countless whose names only God knows. Among them are missionaries, catechists and ordinary families who carried the Gospel to places it had never been heard, and the faithful who supported them with their prayers and sacrifices.

Their witness is an invitation. Through baptism, every Catholic is called to holiness and sent to share Christ with the world.

All saints, pray for us.

“Faith is strengthened when it is given to others.” — St. John Paul II, Redemptoris Missio
Today the Church remembers Pope St. John Paul II, who wrote these words in his 1990 encyclical on the Church’s missionary mandate. This Mission Month, pray for the missionaries who hand on the faith in 1,130 mission dioceses, and for the grace to share it where you are.

How do we bring the Gospel to a world that is changing so rapidly?

A new Vatican document, Venite ad me, released today, October 22, offers reflections on the transmission of the Catholic faith, drawing on experiences from bishops' conferences around the world, including many in mission territories.

Originally requested by Pope Francis and reaffirmed by Pope Leo XIV, the document emphasizes that evangelization begins with an encounter with Jesus Christ.

From Small Christian Communities in Tanzania to Catholics serving people affected by conflict in Myanmar, the experiences highlighted in the document show how faith is
passed on through personal witness, prayer, charity and community.

As the Church marks 100 years of World Mission Sunday, these reflections offer a timely reminder: The mission of proclaiming Christ belongs to all of us.

Read the full document at Vatican.va, and join us in praying for missionaries around the world.

When communist authorities seized their churches and declared them state property, Catholic and Orthodox believers stood together. They stayed through the night, praying inside to defend their sacred places.

In 1889, Bishop Jules-Alphonse Cousin of Nagasaki had young men asking to become priests and no money to train them. He was sending them home.
He wrote to Stéphanie Bigard and her daughter Jeanne in France. They started raising money to pay for those seminarians, and the Society of St. Peter the Apostle began.
The Society still does the same work today. It pays for the formation of priests, sisters and brothers in mission dioceses, so that each local Church is served by its own people.
