Density without the height 🏙️

The Miami Beach Art Deco District in the foreground is a sea of low-to-mid-rise buildings, all at human scale. When the district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, over 800 buildings were credited as contributing structures.

There are some local/foreign developers intent on destroying this gem, already greasing the hands of those who can approve permits. There's already a new high rise proposed for Alton Rd. The way things are; who knows how long this will last.

Scale is so important for the community as well as to let the breezes pass through! The tall building they’re planning on the Firestone lot is completely out of scale! We need government that cares about the people and community and not just money!!!!! @stevenmeiner

@stevenmeiner If you fold, every one one of these buildings will be gone in 20 years.

@stevenmeiner For the love of god, protect this perfect island from greed. For future generations of Miami Beach children and families.

The human scale that is what makes walking on Miami Beach such an enjoyable experience. That and the green spaces that complement these smaller scale buildings, creating intimate spaces. I was recently observing the new development in Bay Harbor Island. Most of the new buildings going up by the waterfront are around 8 stories high. Beyond the scale the style mimics an updated MIMO look. On Miami Beach there are buildings taller than 8 stories all along west Ave and bay road. Perhaps larger development should be confind to these already existing corridors if at all
