A survey of 5.2k young women and men supported previous research that men think muscularity is significantly more important for how attractive a man is than women do. The 'tier list' of how important each muscle is for male aesthetics was overall very similar between men and women, except that all but 1 muscle group was rated less influential by women. For women, the glutes were the third most important muscle, behind only the pecs and abs, more important than even the shoulders and arms, which men rated higher. So if you're a guy looksmaxxing just your mirror muscles, you're doing it wrong. You need to work dat ass. More importantly, even purely from an attractiveness point of view, direct aesthetics don't rank that high for men. In fact, there's research that looksmaxxing and caring a lot about what women think are unattractive to women, ironically. Looking strong, healthy and confident is much more important for attractiveness than your body on paper. Also, while very muscular men generally don't rate that well in surveys of women, other data shows these men do quite consistently get more sexual partners. Much of this effect is explained by intra-sexual competition, basically scaring away other men, rather than inter-sexual attractiveness. So ultimately, I'd say training for aesthetics to get the girl is the wrong mindset to begin with. Train to become a force a nature. Train for personal development.
