The most boring job on Earth just got automated by China, for free. It’s called Unlimited OCR, it comes from Baidu, and it’s small enough to run on your own computer. An OCR tool takes a scanned document and turns it into text your computer can work with. Every other one chops the document into pages and loses the thread in the middle. This one reads the whole thing at once.

Here’s how to use it:

1. Open the free demo on Hugging Face and drop in a scanned PDF or a photo of a page. No install.
2. Get back clean, structured text with every table and heading where it belongs.
3. Feed it a scanned financial report and it keeps the formulas and the reading order intact.
4. Want it local? Install the model with Python and run one file, or batch a whole folder of PDFs with the included script.
5. Building a document search tool or a RAG pipeline? Run it as a vLLM server and delete the messy pre-processing stack you built just to handle PDFs.

What makes this insane:

✅ 3 billion parameters, 32K context, dozens of pages in a single pass
✅ 93% on the OmniDocBench document benchmark
✅ Runs on your own machine, your documents never leave it
✅ MIT licensed, free for commercial use
✅ 27,000+ stars on GitHub in a few months

Why this matters:
Contracts, invoices, scanned reports, old records. Someone in every business spends hours reading those into a system by hand. That job is now one script.

🌸Dream a little more 🌸

One of our favorite little moments from Boogie a few years ago.
We taught an All-Star class that afternoon, and then that night, we drew each other in J&J.

We couldn’t stop laughing when our names came up as it was already the 6th time we had drawn each other that year! And of course we had to sneak in a few moves from class while we were out there.

Can you spot them? 😆 Such a fun memory for us.
