I wanted to hate this before it ever touched my skin.

Why? One word. PATCHOULI.

Besides blue tansy, it’s the one essential oil I truly despise. To me, it smells like Pine-Sol, and the cheap stuff can make you smell downright dirty. 🤢

There’s chemistry behind that. Patchouli contains pinenes, terpenes that can add a sharp, pine-like edge. It also contains patchoulol, which gives it that deep, earthy, woody character. Processing, aging, and blending can all change what your nose picks up.

Then there’s the hippie reputation. In the ’60s and ’70s, patchouli became a counterculture staple: inexpensive, powerful, and sometimes used to cover up other smells. Like BO.

So my nose gets two versions: Pine-Sol or Woodstock. Neither is invited to my house.

But then I got influenced. Swiss Arabian was the very first UAE fragrance house I ever bought from, so I ordered a decant from Fragrances on the go.

And well…

This is a modern fougère, not your typical heavy, earthy patchouli. So I can take one foot off my soapbox, because this is the ONE patchouli I’ll willingly wear.

The other foot? Still firmly planted.
