I’ve always followed my nose. My first fragrance memory is my dad’s Karl Lagerfeld cologne. And growing up in the ’80s, perfume was plentiful. Liz Claiborne, Estée Lauder, department store fragrance counters… scent was everywhere. Then came a whole lot of perfumes for a whole lot of decades. 😂 I’ve been smelling things for a long damn time. Somewhere along the way, I became a massage therapist and spent the next 23 years surrounded by essential oils, lotions, skin and scent. Maybe it’s the Gen X in me, maybe it’s the woo, but I’ve learned to trust when something just feels right. I’ll absolutely try what everyone’s talking about. But trending doesn’t mean it’s going to be for me. I’m looking for the ones that change. The ones that surprise me. The ones that become something different hours later. It’s how the perfume moves. 🤍 #over50 #genx #perfume #perfumelovers #perfumes by @scent.swipe
What does peace mean to you? 🤍 @bondno9ny asked me this, and my answer is a love letter to who I’ve become. “Peace means I no longer need permission to be myself. Trusting my intuition, embracing my spirituality, letting my light shine, but also helping others find their light too. No longer caring if I don’t fit into someone else’s box or idea of me. You do you, I’ll do me. No judgment, no expectations, just love, connection, and the freedom to be our own sovereign selves, exactly as we are.” This is where my spiritual evolution has brought me. I am here to be the light. In my practice and in everything I share, I hold love and light for people so they can remember who they really are: love, compassion, and light. We don’t have to learn it. We just have to remember. 🤍 Thank you, Bond No. 9, for The Scent of Peace for All and for asking a question worth sitting with. #love #peace #remember #thescentofpeace #bondno9 by @scent.swipe
🤍 SCENTSWIPE | I ❤️ DOVE Sold out in 10 minutes. Somehow that’s Dove’s fault? Okay, I’ve been reading all the comments about the Dove perfume launch, and I have to say something, because I really don’t understand why people are giving Dove such a hard time. Yes, it was a limited release. Yes, it reportedly sold out in about 10 minutes. And yes, I completely get why people are disappointed. I’d be disappointed too if something I really wanted was gone before I could get my hands on it. But Brach’s dropped a limited-edition Candy Corn perfume this fall, and its first release reportedly sold out in under a minute. So why does Dove seem to be getting so much heat for doing something similar? Here’s what I think we’re missing. Dove isn’t a perfume house, and neither is Brach’s. These are brands taking scents we’ve known and loved for years and stepping into a completely different category. Honestly? I think that’s pretty damn cool. So maybe instead of dragging Dove for a limited release, we can recognize that they made something people were genuinely excited about. I’ve been a fan of Dove for years, and I’ll keep being one. 🤍 Dove Original Fragrance | Dove perfume | Dove Beauty Bar | Brach’s Candy Corn perfume | limited edition perfume | nostalgic fragrance | fragrance launch | fragrance editorial | perfume community | fragrance discussion | perfume news | Scentswipe by @scent.swipe
🤍 SAPIL | Ombre Smoky Quartz | my review Who forgot to note the fruit? Benzoin, that you? 🤍 SAPIL | Ombre Smoky Quartz jammy • spiced • syrupy TOP Ginger • Cinnamon • Coriander HEART Clove • Star Anise • Woods BASE Vanilla • Benzoin • Tonka Bean • Honey First spray and I’m getting dark purple jammy fruit. So I pull up the notes and… excuse me? Not a single fruit in sight. Okay, well somebody forgot to tell my nose. Then the spice rolls in, and once that clove cozies up to the honey and benzoin, suddenly I’m smelling honeyed tobacco. Ma’am. There’s no tobacco in here either. Here’s the thing: cured tobacco doesn’t have one smell. It can have haylike, honeyed, spicy and dried-fruit nuances, and this fragrance is giving me the whole damn combination. Tonka brings coumarin, which contributes that warm, haylike quality also associated with cured tobacco. Honey adds that waxy sweetness. Clove brings the dark, almost smoky spice. Your nose does the rest. The drydown? Rich, syrupy and ridiculously smooth. Not creamy, not sugary, just warm honeyed tobacco with that dark, dried-fruit jamminess sitting right underneath it. And benzoin, there you are. This resin has a sweet, balsamic depth that, alongside honey and tonka, could be creating that dark dried-fruit impression I’m getting. Almost like raisins or dark plums. Less resin, more fruit preserves. Here’s why: WHY IT MOVES: tonka + honey + clove = honeyed tobacco Tonka contributes haylike warmth, honey brings waxy sweetness, and clove adds dark aromatic spice. Together, they create that rich tobacco impression without an actual tobacco note. benzoin + tonka = dark, dried-fruit jamminess Benzoin’s balsamic sweetness and tonka’s warmth may be creating that syrupy, almost preserved-fruit quality I’m smelling. No fruit. No tobacco. Both showed up anyway. 🤍 MAISON ASRAR | Belgravia | my review Certified hamster free fragrance. 🚫🐹 🤍 MAISON ASRAR | Belgravia HOW IT MOVES: sparkling • creamy • green TOP Bergamot • Blackcurrant • Lemon HEART Lily of the Valley • Freesia • Sandalwood • Caramel BASE Vetiver • Cedarwood • Moss • Musk That first spray? YELLOW & GREEN WITH SPARKLES. Yes, I said what I said. Sparkles. ✨ The bergamot and lemon bring that bright yellow citrus, while the blackcurrant adds a tart, leafy green quality. And the sparkle? It’s that beautiful, almost effervescent freshness that makes the whole opening feel alive. Then Belgravia morphs into this ridiculously beautiful, creamy, clean lotion-like scent. Here’s where the sandalwood and musk start doing their thing. It’s cool and freshly washed, but also warm, buttery, and creamy. ALL. OF. THE. ABOVE. And the caramel? I don’t necessarily smell caramel as something sugary. I think it’s helping round out that creaminess while the white florals keep everything fresh. But then there’s the drydown. Still green, but now it’s a clean, green woody scent. The vetiver, cedarwood, and moss bring that earthy, woody character without becoming dusty, scratchy, or dry. That’s what fascinates me about Belgravia. It goes from sparkling citrus to creamy lotion to clean green woods without ever losing its freshness. The creaminess never completely erases the freshness, and the woods never erase the creaminess. No one puts Baby in a corner. Maison Asrar, you deserve your own spotlight. Here’s why: WHY IT MOVES: bergamot + blackcurrant = sparkling green citrus sandalwood + musk = creamy clean skin vetiver + moss = green woody depth The citrus gives Belgravia its sparkle, the sandalwood and musk create that gorgeous lotion-like texture, and the green woods give it a clean, grounded finish without taking away the softness. 🤍 OLFACTORY X | Hazelnut + Whipped Cream | my review Currently smelling like a Ferrero Rocher in a whipped cream bubble bath, and honestly? Good for me. 🤍 OLFACTORY X | Hazelnut + Whipped Cream effervescent • nutty • creamy TOP Pistachio Gelato • Hazelnut • Sweet Rum HEART Jasmine • Raspberry • White Peach • Pear BASE Whipped Cream • Marshmallow • Cotton Candy • Cocoa I found Olfactory X because another creator on TT was talking about how amazing Honey + Hay was. Naturally, I went looking for it and somehow ended up on an auction site. They didn’t have Hh, but they did have Hc, which was actually the one I was most nervous about trying. So what did I do? Obviously, I bought it. The first couple of spritzes had me going, WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FIZZ? It’s wildly effervescent. It smells carbonated and even gives me that fizzy tingle in my nose… for about 0.2 seconds. Then it settles, and I kid you not, I smell EXACTLY like a Ferrero Rocher folded into whipped cream. Not Nutella. Ferrero Rocher. The whole damn chocolate. I’m also paying attention to something else with this house: none of the three Olfactory X fragrances I own have made me break out in hives. They describe their formulas as clean, vegan, cruelty-free, and free of parabens and phthalates. That does NOT mean allergen-free, but with how reactive my skin can be to fragrance, three for three definitely has my attention. As for Hc, I’m not picking up the fruit, florals, or rum on their own. It’s just hazelnut chocolate wrapped in a whole lot of whipped cream, and I’m perfectly fine with that. WHY IT MOVES: hazelnut + cocoa = Ferrero Rocher That familiar chocolate-covered hazelnut smell. hazelnut + cocoa + whipped cream = fluffy chocolate hazelnut cream The whipped cream is stronger than the chocolate, keeping it light and airy instead of thick and dense. 🤍 SORCE | Fuckery | my review If anyone was wondering where Lost Cherry went… it went into complete F*ckery. And this sh!t is GOOD. 🤍 SORCE | Fvckery dark • boozy • aromatic NOTES Caramelized Sugar • Luxardo Cherry • Cinnamon • Tobacco • Smoke • Vanilla • Amber • White Musk I’m getting EVERYTHING. Dark, rich cherry, booze, tobacco, cinnamon, smoke, and just the perfect amount of sugar to literally get yourself into F*ckery. But the tobacco? THAT takes me somewhere. Straight back to my grandpa and those old foil-lined bags of cherry pipe tobacco. You’d open that bag, take one big, deep inhale, and get that rich, sweet, slightly damp cherry tobacco smell. THAT smell. It’s all there. And what’s wild to me is that smoke is also a note, but it isn’t dry or ashy. It’s that moist, sweet, aromatic tobacco. Not a dry ashtray in sight. And here’s the part that’s really impressing me. As this wears, the cherry gets darker and richer, but I haven’t lost a single scent. Not the cherry. Not the booze. Not the tobacco, cinnamon, smoke, or sugar. Nothing disappears. It just gets darker, richer, and more interesting. Lost Cherry didn’t disappear. It got itself into some serious F*ckery. Here’s why: WHY IT MOVES: Luxardo cherry + cinnamon = dark, boozy warmth The cherry brings that deep, liqueur-like richness, while the cinnamon adds warmth without taking over. Tobacco + smoke = sweet, aromatic depth The tobacco gives me that nostalgic cherry pipe tobacco smell, while the smoke adds richness without becoming dry or ashy. Caramelized sugar + vanilla = softened sweetness Just enough sweetness to round everything out without burying the cherry, spice, or tobacco. 🤍 SCENTSWIPE | When Good Fruits Go Bad | let’s talk This whole rabbit hole started because I was trying to review Sapil Sarab Gloss. ONE review. That’s all I was trying to do. But the minute I smelled Gloss, I got FUNK. The same rotten, musty, overripe fruit I get from Acne Studios by Frédéric Malle and Sikelia Medusa. Like fruit left in a damp cellar for 40 years. One-dimensional. Stomach-turning. And it NEVER leaves. EW. So now I’m playing Sherlock Holmes, and I WANT ANSWERS. 🐇 🤍 SCENTSWIPE | When Good Fruits Go Bad overripe • musty • stagnant FIRST CLUE: IT NEVER CHANGES The rotten-fruit smell sticks around for HOURS. Fruity top notes usually fade, but fruity accords can last. Is it the fruit, what’s underneath, or the combination? THE PLOT TWIST I LOVE Le Labo Another 13. Pear, apple, and a big musky base. And that muskiness? GOOD GOD, it’s beautiful. So it’s not all pear. It’s not all musk. And fruit with musk isn’t automatically the problem. Cleared. For now. ✔️ STILL ON THE SUSPECT LIST CASHMERAN (Medusa) Woody, musky, sometimes earthy. Could it be part of that damp-cellar impression? AKIGALAWOOD (Gloss) Spicy, woody, patchouli-like. Is that earthiness contributing to the funk? ALDEHYDES (Acne Studios + Medusa) Can smell clean, waxy, bright, or soapy. Interesting overlap, but not a match across all three. MY THEORY overripe fruity accords + certain woody or musky materials = rotten fruit in a cellar, at least to MY nose. Published notes aren’t formulas, so I can’t convict anybody yet. NEXT STEP? Smell these materials individually and compare them with fragrances I love. And all this because I wanted to review ONE perfume. Good grief. 🔎 Tell me: what fragrance everyone loves smells absolutely ROTTEN to you? 🤍 SAPIL | Sarab Glow | my review Three notes. THREE. Gardenia, vanilla, and amber. And I’m over here wondering how the hell Sapil made something this damn good. 🤍 SAPIL | Sarab Glow resinous • floral • smooth TOP Gardenia HEART Vanilla BASE Amber This one is CRAAAZY good. Right from the first spray, everything is woven together so tightly, but that amber? She’s running the show. The gardenia is there from the beginning, but the amber has this gorgeous resinous warmth with a little spice that reminds me of cinnamon. And no, cinnamon isn’t even a listed note! But here’s something interesting about amber. It’s actually an accord, not one specific ingredient. Perfumers often build it using warm resins and vanilla-like materials, and those resins can give off a spicy warmth that our noses interpret as cinnamon. So I’m not necessarily smelling cinnamon. I’m smelling the spicy, resinous side of amber. And in Sarab Glow, it’s BEAUTIFUL. Then comes the drydown, and this is where things get really good. Nothing disappears. Everything just smooths out. The gardenia stays, the vanilla becomes more noticeable, and that resinous amber loses its spicy edge and turns warm, smooth, and close to skin. And if you’re familiar with Bvlgari Allegra Baciami, I own that one too, and let me tell you, these two smell VERY similar. Here’s why: WHY IT MOVES: gardenia + amber = warm, resinous florals The amber gives the gardenia that rich, almost cinnamon-like warmth from the very beginning. vanilla + amber = smooth, warm skin As the fragrance settles, the vanilla softens that resinous edge while the gardenia remains present. Everything comes together without losing its identity. 🤍 BOOK.CREATES | Risa | my review An absolutely BEAUTIFUL white floral that somehow gets LIGHTER as it dries down?! And it’s A.D.D.I.C.T.I.V.E. 🤍 BOOK.CREATES | Risa HOW IT MOVES lush • fresh • green BOOK.CREATES does not list an official note pyramid for Risa. Frangipani is the only floral referenced by the perfumer. Everything else in this review is completely sensory, based on what I’m smelling and how the fragrance moves on my skin. Right out of the gate, Risa is a beautiful, lush white floral with frangipani front and center. But here’s where things get interesting. As it moves into the heart, I’m getting these soft, clean pink florals alongside a dry, grassy, earthy green that reminds me of vetiver. And that frangipani? She’s still there! Now here’s what’s WILD about this fragrance. As it dries down, those pink florals and grassy greens become more noticeable, but instead of heading into the typical woody, vanilla, amber, or patchouli territory, Risa stays completely bright, clean, floral, and green. The base is actually LIGHTER than the top! Nothing gets heavy. Nothing gets muddy. The florals and greens overlap beautifully, and the frangipani never completely disappears. It’s an addictive white floral with a surprisingly crisp, green ending. Here’s why: WHY IT MOVES: frangipani + pink florals = clean floral softness pink florals + grassy greens = an airy, earthy finish Rather than losing its floral identity, Risa stays beautifully fresh while the green character gives it another dimension. 🤍 SWISS ARABIAN | Patchouli 01 | my review I wanted to hate this before it ever touched my skin. Why? One word. PATCHOULI. Besides blue tansy, it’s the one essential oil I truly despise. To me, it smells like Pine-Sol, and the cheap stuff can make you smell downright dirty. 🤢 There’s chemistry behind that. Patchouli contains pinenes, terpenes that can add a sharp, pine-like edge. It also contains patchoulol, which gives it that deep, earthy, woody character. Processing, aging, and blending can all change what your nose picks up. Then there’s the hippie reputation. In the ’60s and ’70s, patchouli became a counterculture staple: inexpensive, powerful, and sometimes used to cover up other smells. Like BO. So my nose gets two versions: Pine-Sol or Woodstock. Neither is invited to my house. But then I got influenced. Swiss Arabian was the very first UAE fragrance house I ever bought from, so I ordered a decant from Fragrances on the go. And well… 🤍 SWISS ARABIAN | Patchouli 01 fresh • aromatic • woody PERFUMER Shinichiro Oba COLLECTION Heritage Collection TOP Lavender • Blackcurrant • Bergamot • Pink Pepper • Grapefruit • Cardamom • Watery Accord HEART Geranium • Lily of the Valley • Elemi • Orange Blossom • Pineapple • Mint BASE Patchouli • Ciste Absolute • Olibanum • Oakwood • Cashmere Wood • Vanilla • Tonka This is a modern fougère, not your typical heavy, earthy patchouli. So I can take one foot off my soapbox, because this is the ONE patchouli I’ll willingly wear. The other foot? Still firmly planted. Here’s why: WHY IT MOVES: lavender + mint = aromatic freshness Clean, herbal notes balance the richer base. patchouli + cashmere wood = woody softness Smooth woods soften patchouli’s earthy edge. 🤍 JO MILANO PARIS | Game of Spades Black Sapphire | my review Well, I’m not getting hamster cage, so that’s already a bonus. ♠️ 🤍 JO MILANO PARIS | Game of Spades Black Sapphire smooth • clean • airy TOP Pear • Bergamot • Mandarin Orange • Ginger HEART Orange Blossom • Georgywood BASE Musk • Ambrofix™ • Akigalawood • Cedar This is absolutely beautiful. It’s not a rager. Black Sapphire sits around me like a soft aura, and honestly, that’s the best way I can describe it. What I’m getting is an incredibly smooth, clean, airy wood. Nothing scratchy. Nothing dusty. And thankfully, nothing even close to a hamster cage. The problem is my skin. I cannot smell this on my skin AT ALL. My skin is basically Pac-Man. The minute it sees these woody amber molecules coming, it’s like NOM NOM NOM, gone. So I know there’s more happening here than I can actually follow, and that’s my only frustration with Black Sapphire. I wish I could get the full play of it, because what I can smell floating around me is gorgeous. I’ve never smelled the fragrance this is supposedly similar to, so I can’t speak to that comparison. I can only speak to this one, and this one gives me a smooth, clean, airy wood with a really beautiful aura. Here’s why: WHY IT MOVES: orange blossom + Georgywood = clean floral wood The orange blossom keeps the wood feeling bright and polished instead of heavy. Ambrofix + Akigalawood = airy warmth + textured wood Together they give it that soft woody aura without making it dense or loud.
