Good times and dope films during the Cultural Connections Film Festival curated by Lamonia Deanne Brown and sponsored by Terra Renee of African American Women in Cinema. (AAWIC)

Zoo (Volkerschau) screened in a block of female directors, “Calling the Shots” and I moderated a terrific panel on the Politics of Black Women in Film. We were still going strong after two hours, but alas, we had to wrap it up, which lets me know there’s more there there to unpack.

The highlight of my day came from our young people. Former cohorts of the Black Girls Film Camp screened their short films which I truly enjoyed. Besides being adorable, bright-eyes and bushy-tailed, these young women have something to say, and are repping their generation with boldness, bravery, courage and intention. 💪🏾🎞️🎥

It was a day of renewing old friendships and creating new ones. There’s something to be said about sisterhood. Looking forward to next year’s festival. #filmfestival #films #culture #directher #blackexcellence
