Well, I think some have missed the point.
On a previous post about my dealings with the Harley-Davidson motor company, I have apparently stepped on some toes and that was not my intention. Maybe I should have used a generic “content creator’s” name and stuck a sticker over the face in the photo? Maybe not? I don’t know but It is what it is.
I will try and reiterate with the facts of why I am unhappy with the treatment I personally have received over the course of owning this motorcycle. I am just a regular consumer like everyone else who is reading this post. I bought this motorcycle with 7 miles on it. I pay a lot of hard earned money every month for a brand new machine. Within the first month of ownership it was in the shop for repairs. I had 17 repair orders within the first 2 years of owning this motorcycle. We are currently sitting at the 3 year mark of owning this motorcycle.
Within the first two years of ownership I had 4 fuel pumps, 4 batteries, 3 stators (most recent was a complete “upgraded” charging system), 2 coil packs, 2 left hand control modules, a right hand control module, ecm, display unit, and wiring harness. I’m sure I’m missing something but I have all the service records to prove every bit of what I am saying. White-lightning service department completed all the work except for one of the fuel pumps and they did an outstanding job. I have zero complaints over the work performed.
Now, a month after having the most recent and complete charging system replaced with the “upgraded” charging system, athe motorcycle’s voltages started to fluctuate again. I told my service department and they suggested that I pay for a new and bigger battery, a different battery box, and a different fluid reservoir to accompany this change. They also suggested I get a rectifier upgrade kit. All of this would not be covered under warranty. The bike’s warranty was about to expire.

Sometimes you just have to part ways. I've never own a HD, but always wanted a Roadking. (Life get busy). I've been happy with my m109r, it had a few issues when I first got it, but they stuck behind it, and 20 years later I still ride it. Still do my own work when I can. Makes me think, when time is right not get a HD.....

I like the Pan American. I like its looks and the motor company promotes it better. However you are not the only one having a lot problems with this model. So I just keep waiting. I might find an old 883 and convert it to an adventure bike. I dunno. Hope you get this bs sorted with HD.

Heres an idea that every could pitch in and only take maybe 5 minutes of their time. . So, I say we just get a ton of us to bombard corporate Harley with emails about YOUR issue in particular. See how much harassment it takes to get them to give you a new bike!??!

In some states they have Lemon laws. The way I understand it, a certain number of warranty fixes in a specific time and they have to buy it back or replace it. Might be worth looking into.

I heard from others when it rains this bike leaves them stranded. Goes to the shop a few days later (when it’s not wet) “unable to duplicate”

So HDMC wants me to pay close to $2,000 to fix an engineering problem on a new motorcycle that they sold me. Since day one, whenever it rains, my suspension and ride modes stop working. When it rains the charging port stops working even if if it closed and not being used. I cannot use the heated gear that Gerbing was so kind enough to send us to try out and give our honest feed back about. When I plug anything into the auxiliary ports the voltage’s drop and the system cannot handle any load besides just trying to run. I will eventually be able to afford the upgrades to true the bike up and I will probably just raffle it off. Any proceeds of course will go to a charity. It would be a great bike for someone to win for a couple bucks even if you just turn it into show piece and it’s never ridden again. I have not said much over the last 3 years about all the issues I have been having. If you followed along you knew it was in the shop but other than that I had tried to stay neutral and hope they would fix the issues. It is not fixed and I was told it was improper maintenance. Can someone explain to me how to properly maintain fuel pumps and electrical charging systems? I have a lot of people talking smack on socials so maybe I am missing something? Yes, I can and do wrench on my own machines. I will not wrench on something that is still warranty and void the warranty. I have built a race dragbike, a race car, and have owned several diesel work trucks over the years so I am not ignorant when it comes to these things. I just want to be transparent to my dealings of what I have personally experienced thus far. If the motor company would have taken care of its previous loyal customers instead of trying to get the fastest sale then I would still be a loyal Harley customer. I am no longer that. Nothing but Love!
