But for many women in rural India, that strength is tested when their vision begins to fade.

The work doesn’t stop. But everything becomes harder. She can’t see the flame clearly while cooking. She hesitates to walk outside alone. Even familiar tasks begin to feel frightening.

For millions of women living with cataract blindness, losing sight can quietly take away their independence.

This Navratri, we celebrate Shakti, the strength within every woman who nurtures, cares, provides, protects, and keeps her family going. And that strength deserves support, too.

For 28 years, Sankara Eye Foundation USA has been expanding access to free eye care for underserved communities. Through new hospitals, outreach, and growing surgical capacity, we are working toward a future where more women like her can receive the care they need.
