Our March to a Million campaign aims to provide 1 million free surgeries annually to those in need.

Imagine trying to empty a boat with a small cup while waves keep splashing in over the side. You’re removing water, but the flow coming in is faster than one cup can handle.

That is the challenge of India’s cataract blindness crisis.

Cataracts are largely age-related. As life expectancy rises, millions of people continue to develop cataracts and need surgery to restore their sight.

Surgeries are happening every day, helping people regain their vision. But as people leave the waiting list, new people continue to join it.

The challenge is not simply to treat the people waiting today. It is to build enough capacity to keep pace with the need.

That means more hospitals, operating rooms, doctors, nurses, outreach, transportation, and systems that make quality eye care accessible to those who need it.

For 28 years, Sankara Eye Foundation USA has been building this capacity with 28 hospitals across 14 Indian states and the ability to provide 574,000 free eye surgeries every year.

But the need is still greater.

Through March to a Million, Sankara Eye Foundation USA is working towards the capacity to provide 1 million free eye surgeries every year by 2030.

Together, we can help clear the backlog and bring the gift of vision to more people.

She wakes before everyone else. She cooks. She cleans. She cares for her children. She looks after her family. She has spent years making sure everyone around her is okay. To every woman, everywhere, who carries so much for others, thank you for being that Shakti. 💛

But for many women in rural India, that strength is tested when their vision begins to fade.

The work doesn’t stop. But everything becomes harder. She can’t see the flame clearly while cooking. She hesitates to walk outside alone. Even familiar tasks begin to feel frightening.

For millions of women living with cataract blindness, losing sight can quietly take away their independence.

This Navratri, we celebrate Shakti, the strength within every woman who nurtures, cares, provides, protects, and keeps her family going. And that strength deserves support, too.

For 28 years, Sankara Eye Foundation USA has been expanding access to free eye care for underserved communities. Through new hospitals, outreach, and growing surgical capacity, we are working toward a future where more women like her can receive the care they need.

Because the woman who has spent her life caring for everyone deserves the chance to see clearly, too.

This Navratri, let’s celebrate Shakti and support the women who embody it every day.

Empowered girls shape the future. But it all starts with the chance to see it clearly.

This International Day of the Girl Child, we’re celebrating what becomes possible when a girl has access to the health, education, and opportunities she needs to thrive.

Through early detection and treatment, Sankara Eye Foundation USA helps protect children’s vision, so they can stay in school, learn, and pursue the future they imagine for themselves.

But creating opportunity doesn’t stop there. Sankara Eye Foundation, USA is also empowering women to build better futures for themselves and their families.

Our hospitals recruit and train local women from economically disadvantaged communities as paramedics and hospital staff, giving them skills, livelihoods, and the opportunity to become financially independent.

Because when you help a girl stay in school, you protect her potential. And when you help a woman gain the skills and opportunity to build a career, you create a ripple effect that can reach her family and future generations.

This International Day of the Girl Child, let’s invest in the vision, education, and opportunity that help girls and women shape a better future. 💛

Every restored sight is a reminder of what your support makes possible and of the lives still waiting for that same chance.

We’ve come a long way. But there is so much more to do.

Sankara Eye Foundation USA is working toward the capacity to provide one million free eye surgeries every year by 2030.

He, who could no longer see clearly, sits outside his home.
He hasn’t been able to work like he used to. He can’t travel alone anymore. He worries about becoming a burden to his family.

Then someone brings him to an eye camp.

A few hours later, he has hope again.

Sometimes, service is simply helping someone access what they couldn’t afford on their own.
Mahatma Gandhi believed that we must be the change we wish to see in the world.

For 28 years, Sankara Eye Foundation USA has worked to turn that spirit of service into action, bringing free eye care to under-served communities.

Today, as the world’s largest free eye care program, Sankara Eye Foundation USA continues expanding hospitals, outreach, and surgical capacity so that more people can receive the care they need.

This Gandhi Jayanti, we celebrate the power of service: one person, one act, one life at a time.

There is something special about watching your grandchildren grow. It feels like taking a trip down memory lane, reliving the joy of watching your own children grow up.

Their first steps. Their little smiles. The way their faces change as they grow older.

But for a grandfather living with cataract blindness, those precious moments can slowly become a blur.

A simple cataract surgery can help restore his sight, so he can watch his grandchildren grow, see their smiles, and make more memories with them.

For 28 years, Sankara Eye Foundation USA has worked to make this possible for under-served communities.

Today, as the world’s largest free eye care program, we’re expanding hospitals, outreach, and capacity as we march toward a million free eye surgeries every year by 2030.

This International Day of Older Persons, let’s give the gift of vision to a grandparent. A gift of $50 can help make free, life-changing eye surgery possible.

Millions of people in India live with cataracts that can be treated with a simple surgery. Yet many remain in a growing queue for the care they need.

And while they wait, life doesn’t stop.
A farmer struggles to work. A parent finds daily responsibilities harder. A grandparent may hear their grandchildren laugh, but struggle to see their faces clearly. For someone waiting, every day matters.

The answer is not just to perform more surgeries. We also need the capacity to reach more people, more hospitals, operating rooms, doctors, nurses, outreach, transportation, and systems that bring care within reach.

For 28 years, Sankara Eye Foundation USA has been building that capacity, with 28 hospitals across 14 Indian states and 550,000 free eye surgeries every year. But the need is still greater. The queue is still long.

Your gift can help expand this capacity and reach more people waiting for care, helping move them from the waiting list to the operating theatre.

Through March to a Million, Sankara Eye Foundation USA is working towards the capacity to provide 1 million free eye surgeries every year by 2030.

The queue is long. Together, we can make it shorter. Donate now.

3 years is a long time to live without clear vision.

3 years of living with blurred vision would have meant struggling with simple chores, becoming more dependent on others, and missing out on the everyday moments that make up life.

A procedure that can take just three days from camp to restored sight. A surgery that can cost as little as $50. And yet, for Asha, it remained far from reach.

Finally, three years of waiting came to an end.

Through a Sankara eye camp in Khopoli, Asha was screened and taken to Sankara’s Panvel hospital through free transportation. There, she received her cataract surgery free of cost, along with free meals throughout her treatment.

As the world’s largest free eye care program, Sankara Eye Foundation USA is working to ensure that people do not spend years waiting for care that can change their lives.

Together, we can help more people see again and help make sure no one has to wait years for vision.
