Keeping it a secret is part of what keeps you trapped. As long as nobody knows, there’s nobody asking questions, challenging your excuses, or seeing the distance between who you say you are and what you keep choosing behind closed doors.
Maybe you tell yourself you’re protecting her feelings. That you’ll stop on your own and she’ll never have to know. But if you’ve made that promise to yourself over and over while continuing to hide it, you have to get honest about what that secrecy is actually protecting.
Meanwhile, she’s building a relationship with you based on what she believes is true. She may feel the distance, notice changes in your intimacy, or question herself without knowing what’s happening. When she asks and you deny it, you’re giving her another reason to doubt her own judgment.
And when the truth comes out, the pain goes beyond what you watched. It’s realizing you looked her in the eyes, reassured her, and let her keep trusting a story you knew wasnt true. Every new piece she discovers makes it harder to believe the next thing you say.
If you want out of this cycle, honesty has to become part of your recovery. Own your choices without blaming her, reach for support, and follow through when the conversation is over. You cant rebuild trust while still deciding which parts of the truth she gets to have.
