“Two English Man in the most overcast Country on earth have elevated the Chuck. E Cheese-inspired plastic pool slide to the sublime. Yes, actually. But fair warning: you’re going to want one.
When I visit a
@splinterworks slide in real life, it looks even better than it appears in the images reproduced herein, like an installation or better yet extalation (my word) by Anish Kapoor. How is it that a slide creates so much drama and interest and yet somehow seems to impose a sense of purpose? From a distance it doesn’t even look like an object. It looks more like a flyby from the Silver Surfer. The slide I happened to visit is in the Hamptons. I asked the owner if he’s ever had any sort of issue with it. “Not once in three years,” he says “I wish everything here worked as well.”
Properly placed, a Splinterworks slide bends the light and image in a way that humans find irresistibly magnetic and mesmerising. But unlike Anish Kapoor’s Cloud Gate, this Splinterworks slide is yours and you can climb on top of it. Oh, and slide down it. Like Fred Flintstone in the opening credits.”
