Dr. Melissa Buck, MD is a neonatologist. She deals with urgent NICU situations every day.
She was also one of the last doctors working on our son Andreas.
In the years since, she and I have built something out of that experience. A program to teach medical students how to have the hard conversations - how to give families honest information without stripping them of hope. How to show up in the room as both a clinician and a human being.
Because "sometimes these things just happen" is not a diagnosis. And families deserve better than that.
