• Seitzhalle Sports Hall.

The building displays highly characteristic features of Hamburg’s post-war modernist architecture (Nachkriegsmoderne). Its red brick walls, white concrete structural framework, expansive glass façades, and projecting roof overhangs are particularly striking. These standardized sports halls, developed by architect Paul Seitz in Hamburg, were built starting in 1956.Characteristic features of this building type include: One of the long façades being fully glazed. Reinforced concrete columns dividing the glass façade into sections. The use of red brick on the other façades. Narrow ribbon windows providing natural light to the changing rooms and service areas. A flat-roofed reinforced concrete structure. It makes me happy to see that this charming modernist building from the 1950s has been preserved in such a central location and continues to serve its original function.
