Not me holding back tears while editing this 😭
October is Bells Palsy Awareness Month. I was diagnosed with Bells Palsy earlier this year in April. I remember it so vividly like it was yesterday. My whole body felt off. I couldn’t work it out until i looked in the mirror and realised my face was paralysing.
Being diagnosed with Bells Palsy was the only answer I got. I knew i had Bells Palsy, but had no idea how it happened, no idea how to cure it, no idea how long it would last. I became a shell of a human being. I still would not ever wish this on my worst enemy.
I get so sad looking back at this version of me, not because of how I looked, but because i was so depressed and saw no light. I was surrounded by people who just didn’t understand. I wish I could go back and give her a hug and let her know that she would be okay in time.
I made it my life mission after recovering from this to prioritise myself, my health, my nervous system and everything in between. I’m proud of how far I have come since then. I am proud to be inspiring a few of you to put yourself first, listen to your body, and rest when you need it.
I still stand by that.
If you’re going through Bell’s palsy or similar, i see you. Stay strong. You got this.
