My Airbnb host, Vicci invited me on a hike to see bears, I asked if it was safe. She replied that in her 37 years of walking this trail she has never had a bad encounter. Within minutes of being on the trail we spot our first black bear, then another, then two more fishing in the river. We were just downstream from the Quinsam River Hatchery, lots of lovely fish for the taking! It has become a popular place for nature photographers to observe the bears. And only a ten minute drive from town!
