*This is an ongoing situation, and we will update the post with more information as it is learned. All information is unverified, but corroborated across multiple sources.* Someone has fallen out of Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia, and sadly passed away. A man was thrown from the ride near the end of the ride, with on ride photos showing the man fully out of his seat, and flying towards the row behind. A recording of a 911 dispatcher is heard requesting Emergency Services to respond to the park, with reports of “someone falling off the Goliath ride”, noting that a total of 3 people are requesting aid. Officials have confirmed to Channel 2 Cobb County news that one person has died. According to a witness in the station, a man entered the station screaming that a person had fallen out, and the seat was empty with the restraint open. The ride was stopped on the lift hill, and is currently being evacuated. Additionally, Raging Bull, Nitro, Leviathan, Behemoth, and all other rides that use the same restraints in the chain are now temporarily closed. Please be mindful that this is an ongoing situation, but our thoughts are with those affected and we pray for the best case scenario as the event continues to unfold. PC: Six Flags Over Georgia
Tomorrow, October 13th, Eltie Takes the Lead: A Guide Dog’s Tail arrives in bookstores! 🐾 Illustrator: @ziyuechen Three years ago, I started writing a children’s book from the perspective of the one who knows my daily life best: my guide dog, Eltie. In the book, Eltie walks kids through a day in his life, showing how he helps me get where I need to go, what his job really looks like, and why I, as a blind person, rely on him. Kids also learn how to recognize a service dog and how (and how not) to interact with a working dog out in the world. My goal was for blind kids to see themselves in this book, and for sighted kids to enjoy learning about something that might feel unfamiliar or even a little scary at first. I hoped hearing it from a dog would make it feel safe, comforting, and fun! Accessibility was at the heart of every decision. The hardcover includes tactile images on select pages, including one with tactile braille, so kids can experience the story with their hands as well as their eyes. I also narrated the audiobook myself, which was honestly nerve-wracking. Stepping into Eltie’s voice felt like a big responsibility, and I hope I made him proud! None of this would be complete without the incredible artwork of Ziyue Chen, a deeply talented Deaf artist who brought Eltie to life with so much warmth and personality. I can’t see her illustrations myself, but hearing everyone’s reactions has been amazing. The cover of the book is here and I will be sharing some of my favorite pages tomorrow. I just got back from visiting my 14-month-old niece in France, and sharing the book with her was a moment I won’t forget. Watching her light up at Eltie made three years of work feel worth it all over again. Thank you to everyone who preordered, shared, and cheered us on! If you pick up the hardcover or audiobook, I hope Eltie finds a special place on your shelf or in your classroom. Accessibility: Illustration of a girl with a red backpack walking along a path at sunset, holding the handle of her black guide dog’s harness. Purple and pink sky, butterflies, and yellow flowers in the foreground.
