We’re proud to spotlight Johnathan Gray, Class of 2014, a former USC Upstate men’s basketball student-athlete whose journey demonstrates how the lessons learned through athletics can translate into professional success. A graduate of USC Upstate with a degree in Business Administration, Johnathan has built a career in supply chain management, strategic sourcing, and material management, combining the discipline of an athlete with the vision of a leader.
Johnathan serves as Supervisor of Material Management – Advanced Technology & Life Sciences (ATLS) at Fluor Corporation, where he leads teams, supports complex projects, and helps drive supplier performance and project execution. His passion for leadership, developing others, and creating meaningful results reflects the same commitment to teamwork and excellence that shaped his collegiate experience.
For Johnathan, leadership is about more than managing projects. It’s about building strong teams, creating opportunities for others to grow, and delivering results that make a difference. As a member of the USC Upstate Men’s Basketball team during the 2009–2010 season, Johnathan learned valuable lessons that continue to influence his professional and personal journey.
“Being a student-athlete taught me discipline, accountability, teamwork, and how to perform under pressure, qualities that have carried directly into my career and leadership style.”
Beyond athletics, USC Upstate provided Johnathan with a strong educational foundation and reinforced the importance of relationships, perseverance, and continuous growth. These lessons continue to guide him as a husband, father, leader, and professional, demonstrating that the Spartan experience extends far beyond graduation.
