$1,200 for a tuned set of vintage Stanley Bedrocks, or put the money toward Lie-Nielsen?
@otl357 asked. Marc's take: restoring vintage planes is a skill, and you can really mess them up if you don't know what you're doing. If you can't take a few test passes, you don't know what you're getting. If you just want functional tools, pick three or four Lie-Nielsen planes. They're perfect out of the box and backed by a company that will help you. Go vintage if you love the look and feel. Then Nicole asks if she can use them to open paint cans.
Team vintage or team new?

You can totally open a paint can with a hand chisel just use the top edge of the iron..

If there's a Stanley number one in there then it's totally worth it otherwise at 1200 bucks that's still a Gamble

The vintage planes have been tried and true for a hundred years by professional craftsmen. You don't need to be some sort of expert to service one. Don't fall for this
