You Matter Mama 🫶 ✨
Your health matters Mama ✨

You pour constant energy into others.

Breastfeeding taps mothers mentally, physically, and emotionally.

It provides unmatched protection for both mom and babies but it is not the finish line for preventative care.

Yes, you prevent your risk for breast cancer many times over by breastfeeding but it isn’t the ultimate protection.

My mother breastfed me and my three siblings, she sacrificed countless hours caring for and nourishing us. But she also put herself and her needs on the back burner - like so many of us mothers do , in a sense ingrained in us to be selfless. But it is not selfish to prioritize your health or your care mama.

I lost my mom nearly 7 years ago after she courageously battled a 10 year journey with breast cancer (Diagnosed at 43).
She did all the right things to prevent this disease but sometimes I wonder- if she had gotten just one mammogram at the recommended age of 40 would I still have my mom? I am NOT questioning Gods plan or HER love for us- I just wish she would have had the chance.
If you knew my mom she was selfless to a fault- always putting others needs before her own.
She thought she was okay because she breastfed, 4 children, countless hours, months - years of her life spent protecting and nourishing us while protecting her body.
Most moms would be protected by this level of breastfeeding.
But breastfeeding while incontestably beneficial and preventative is not the end of caring for yourself Mama.
Initial screening age for Breast Cancer is 40 and if you have any close familial history it is 10 years PRIOR to their diagnosis date (I.e. I was recommended to start getting tested at 33) (continued in comments) #breastcancer #breastcancerawareness #breastcancerprevention #preventativecare #breastfeeding

I got my first at 34. I was cleared to wait until 40 to have them annually, but I’m so glad I got checked when my doctor felt some suspicious tissue. Thanks for spreading the word. You greatly honor your loving mom ❤️

We are taught that prevention is key but we are not taught HOW to prevent. #RaiseAwareness

(Continued) Don’t let the business of life and prioritizing others keep you from taking care of your health mama. You’re the best version of yourself when you take care of yourself and by taking care of yourself you give the best version of yourself to those you love most And that’s why I scheduled and completed my first Mammogram this year I felt so many emotions standing in that changing room - so many thoughts- so many feelings- but the one that pushed through them all was immense gratitude that despite what the test would show I was taking a step to fight for my own health and safety so I can be the healthiest version of myself for the others I care for. I am NOT mad at my mama for not getting a mammogram but I DO wish she would have had the opportunity to. And NO- it WAS NOT painful, WAS NOT time consuming and WAS covered by my insurance even though I’m 35 If you are scared or on the fence about testing , reach out to me and I am happy to discuss my experience. This is in no way medical advice. Just one mother whose motherhood has been altered by her mother’s cancer journey and has decided to use that sacrifice to tweak how I show up for others and my health. You MATTER mama ✨ Your Health Matters ✨ Keep showing up for YOU so you can keep showing up for those you love ✨
