This photo adventure started out pretty rough. The first location I selected was on the cusp of the marine layer, the front between warm land air and frigid ocean air was smacking into the beach with winds upwards of 30mph. I even broke another light stand! So we bailed to Option B, one of my favorite beaches in all of Oregon where the marine layer had already passed by and the breeze was mild at best. The sun was just lowering below the fog layer enough to give us some warmer light, but my light assistants helped me fill in the ambience with some good old fashioned off camera flash in my 48” softbox. The scene is real though, Oregon beaches are just this gorgeous when they aren’t spongy with rain, which is also frequent.

The pirate being lured into oceanic temptation is @yetigt , the irresistible mermaid is his young wife, @littlebrittanyb who is one of two friends I have who identify with Mermaid Life maybe more than their legs, it’s an entire lifestyle! And she blended perfectly into the dramatic coastal beauty.
