I love having the problem of not knowing which image from a shoot to upload next, there were just so many amazing shots @downen_creative_studios and I captured at @spa_con last week! . So here it is, my next choice of her just-completed Nemesis build from the video game Hades II (not yet released). She built this cosplay for a @dragoncon group project, and yes, there were several sleepless nights associated with it! But of course, it became a thing of beauty in the end, and for reasons you can see for yourself, it's a head turner. If you want to see the build details, and they are quite extensive, follow Beverly, she is the industry expert in BTS and WIPs and freely shares her techniques and knowledge with all who will listen. . As for this shot, it was a three light set up, one main light (33" Glow octabox), and two rim lights with one red gel and one blue gel covering the flashes. We were in a very dark room, so I didn’t worry about ambient light for this shot, I just dialed in my flashes to the exposure I wanted and let the darkness surround the amazing details. . 10 more random shots from my amazing adventure at @yunicon_wien this past weekend. So many great people, so many images to share! . To my sensational cosplay models: . I am still traveling home today so cannot double check the Google Drive photo gallery for the missing images, which I’m sure are in the hundreds. Once I am home tonight, if I’m not dead tired, I’ll begin importing them to my Mac and then work on a second cloud solution to share our work. I thought my workflow would be more fluid from camera to cloud, but relying on hotel WiFi and, laugh you should, convention center WiFi (remember to breathe in so you don’t pass out from laughing too much) has been a huge challenge to successfully get them shared with you. I’ll communicate how and where to get them when I have a solution in place. . These are still unedited shots and I’m pretty happy so many are professional and post worthy out of camera, but i will take time to make exposure and color corrections, maybe remove a lightstand here and there, we’ll see if there’s time 😆 . Thank you everyone at Yunicon, our hearts and memory cards are full ❤️ . . #yunicon #cosplay #cosplayphotography #vienna #portraitphotography by @downenphotography
My take on Alucard from the Anime Hellsing @ Yunicon 2026. Thx @downenphotography for the shot. by @downenphotography
One of my highlights this weekend was the honor of going to dinner with wonderful guests like @annelunecos who filled my New-Friend card up with an array of incredible friends from all over the globe. If you ever get the opportunity to be in attendance at the same time as Annelunecos, don’t pass it up, she’s a wonderfully talented person and a complete joy to hang out with for an afternoon! . We shot this together at @yunicon_wien yesterday when she took the time out of her celebrity demands to discover my photo studio hidden in the under level bank vault 🤣 . . #yunicon #cosplay #yuniconwein #cosplayvienna #cosplayphotography by @downenphotography
10 random shots from 10 random cosplayers yesterday at @yunicon_wien . All of these folks are strangers to me but we now have a connection, a place in the web of time where our paths intersected and we were able to be friends for a short while. I don’t even have IG names yet, so tag em if you know em! . All images are unedited and straight out of camera, I’m not even back in my home country yet so who has time to edit??? Just trying to get it right in Pre and save some time! . Thank you everyone shooting with me, it’s been an amazing and tiring adventure, and now here comes Sunday, one more day of shoots! . . #yunicon #cosplay #cosplayvienna #yunicon_wien by @downenphotography
Spooky Season Take Two (fake blood warning): @mia_may as her very own Jack the Ripper inspired London based serial killer, because and I’m paraphrasing here, “ Why should men have all the fun?” This entire outfit was made by Mia and not close to the first Victorian era cosplay we’ve shot together, she is drawn to the era and I’m convinced reincarnated from some business mogul or playwright from London’s seedy past. . This was shot on a very, VERY cold day one winter in a building I’ve affectionately named “The K*ll Room”, which is an uninsulated out building on a farm with drainage in the floor, so yeah… that how it got its name. Anyway, it had the motif for the shoot and it being as cold as a bitter London evening only made it better for the photoshoot. . Lighting was masterfully applied by @zack.downen and @yetigt as was the London fog. Zack also did an amazing job applying the very cold fake blood splatter on Mia and didn’t stop even when she winced from the cold splashes covering her face, LOL. You know it’s a cold day when even the fake blood feels refrigerated. . . #spookyseason #halloween #londonfog #becarefuloutthere #butcherknife by @downenphotography
I may still be in my wedding season, but a reminder that’s it’s October and I’m still a spooky bitch. Fellow ghoul queens @downen_creative_studios @jjstefishen Photographer @downenphotography by @downenphotography
We don’t have to agree but if you don’t agree you’re a big fat stupid head, that Shaun of the Dead is in the top 2 zombie movies of all time. No question. . Anyway, this shoot is what happens when one friend says “You’ve got red on you” and the other friends immediately agree they are zombies. @mia_may came up with this rando idea and @deeladesigns and @yetigt spent no time getting in character and joining the adventure. I also love that Yetigt drove up pre-zombified, so he drove an hour as a zombie up Oregon’s busiest freeway 😆 . Shot literally outside Mia’s front yard and nearby park, the neighbor didn’t appreciate us but the dog walkers seemed to enjoy it. . . #shaunofthedead #zombie #youvegotredonyou #thewinchester #cosplay by @downenphotography
This photo adventure started out pretty rough. The first location I selected was on the cusp of the marine layer, the front between warm land air and frigid ocean air was smacking into the beach with winds upwards of 30mph. I even broke another light stand! So we bailed to Option B, one of my favorite beaches in all of Oregon where the marine layer had already passed by and the breeze was mild at best. The sun was just lowering below the fog layer enough to give us some warmer light, but my light assistants helped me fill in the ambience with some good old fashioned off camera flash in my 48” softbox. The scene is real though, Oregon beaches are just this gorgeous when they aren’t spongy with rain, which is also frequent. . The pirate being lured into oceanic temptation is @yetigt , the irresistible mermaid is his young wife, @littlebrittanyb who is one of two friends I have who identify with Mermaid Life maybe more than their legs, it’s an entire lifestyle! And she blended perfectly into the dramatic coastal beauty. . . Shot with 35mm and 85mm prime @sigmaphoto Art lenses and a @godoxlighting ad400pro as the off camera flash in the above mentioned 48” octabox. . . #ocf #mermaid #oregon #oregoncoast #apirateslifeforme by @downenphotography
This was taken back in the heavier armor days when full chest pieces and greaves were all the rage, and @downen_creative_studios was in her let’s-learn-all-things-thermoplastics phase of her journey. In fact, her Athena Goddess of Wisdom, War, and Crafting cosplay was entirely inspired by her fidgeting with molding shapes and the next thing I knew, she had created Medusa’s head on a shield from molded toy rubber snakes. And then per usual, she became a goddess. . This is all covered in her book, btw, you can learn a lot from her brain transferred into the truly ultimate guide of cosplay. . This cosplay is probably in her top two most photogenic cosplays next to her Nemesis build, which you can find tacked onto the very top of my profile. Then you can tell me which armor build captured better in camera! . We captured this image at @emeraldcitycomiccon awhile back on one of those magical years when the weather was sunny and not freezing, I think there’s been like two of those weekends at ECCC. The sun was about to dip down behind the buildings across the street but we had 10 good minutes of backlight before the mood was over. You may also notice the columns are very symmetrical and that’s because they are the same columns, I duplicated the columns on the left and reversed them on the right to lend a fuller greek-goddess-temple vibe and less of a we’re-shooting-this-next-to-a-bank vibe. And no, AI was not fucking used, i used photoshop the way the gods intended. And skillz. . She seriously covers all of these techniques in her book, you should grab a copy and learn cool stuff. I edited it and did a lot of the photography, which means I’ve read it at least four times so far and i learned more than i ever needed to know about thermoplastics along the way. 5/5 stars, would read again. . . #cosplay #goddess #athena #eccc #cosplayersguidetoevafoam . . Stop reading, I’m finished. Nothing to see here, move along. Fuck AI. I have kitty pictures, don’t make me use them. Cuz i’ll do it. by @downenphotography
One beauty dish, two hi-key shots, and only one with eyes open, but closed eyes is the right kind of mystery, isn’t it? . @pleasanthiss in her Persephone latex cosplay being all mysterious and windowy for me in the studio. . . #latex #latexbabe #latexcosplay #pink #persephone . . No AI wanted or needed. . . I’ll be shooting again starting in November, latex optional but welcome. by @downenphotography
