I went to see a nurse about something else. Her words led me to the mammogram I believe saved my life.
She told me as I was between 40-49 years old, I was eligible for breast screening with
@actioncancer .I had no symptoms or family history, but I listened, booked an appointment and on 24th October 2024, I learned I had breast cancer.
Since then, life has been a whirlwind of treatment, recovery, family life and finding my way forward.
Tonight, I had the privilege of sharing my story at Action Cancer’s AGM and speaking about the difference their support has made, not only through detection, but through counselling, reflexology and the two-day Positive Living Programme.
They gave me space to talk, time to pause and support to heal as the mum, sister, artist and woman behind the diagnosis.
Last year, my sister Paula and I joined Action Cancer’s four-day walk in Marbella to raise money and awareness. Becoming an ambassador has been an honour, and I want to keep using my voice to help others.
To the nurse who encouraged me, and everyone who makes Action Cancer’s work possible: thank you. Your kindness reaches further than you may ever know.
If you’ve been putting off finding out about screening, please take this as a gentle nudge to contact Action Cancer and share this with someone who might need that nudge too.
One conversation made all the difference for me.
If you’d like to support my fundraising for Action Cancer, you can donate via the link in my stories.
Thank you 💖
