One of the smartest ways to turn defense into offense is to make your opponent uncomfortable before moving forward.
Here’s a combination I use to take control of the point:
1. Backhand off the glass → Cross-court to the fence.
Use the rebound to create an angle toward the side fence. The goal isn’t necessarily to hit a winner, but to force your opponent into a difficult return.
2. Recognize the opportunity to take the net.
As soon as you see your opponent struggling to control the ball, move forward. Don’t rush blindly — time your movement so you’re balanced and ready for the next shot.
3. Volley → Take control.
Anticipate the weaker return, step into the volley, and use the open space to increase pressure or finish the point.
The key is understanding that your first shot creates the opportunity, and your second shot takes advantage of it.
At higher levels, winning points isn’t always about hitting better shots. It’s about connecting them with the right decisions.
Create the problem. Take the net. Finish the job.
Save this combination for your next padel session.
