Ever wondered why some players suddenly go for risky shots when the match gets intense?

It’s not always about confidence. Sometimes, it’s the pressure making decisions for them.

When emotions take over, players tend to rush points, force winners, and choose shots they wouldn’t normally attempt.

Why does this happen?

1. They want to escape the pressure.
Instead of staying patient and building the point, they look for one big shot to end the rally.

2. They confuse aggression with control.
Playing aggressively doesn’t mean taking unnecessary risks. The best players know when to attack and when to stay in the point.

3. They stop trusting their game.
Under pressure, players sometimes abandon the patterns that got them there and start searching for something extraordinary.

One thing I’ve learned from competing is that pressure doesn’t always require a bigger shot.

Sometimes, it requires a better decision.

The best players don’t eliminate risk. They know when it’s worth taking.

One of the smartest ways to turn defense into offense is to make your opponent uncomfortable before moving forward.

Here’s a combination I use to take control of the point:

1. Backhand off the glass → Cross-court to the fence.
Use the rebound to create an angle toward the side fence. The goal isn’t necessarily to hit a winner, but to force your opponent into a difficult return.

2. Recognize the opportunity to take the net.
As soon as you see your opponent struggling to control the ball, move forward. Don’t rush blindly — time your movement so you’re balanced and ready for the next shot.

3. Volley → Take control.
Anticipate the weaker return, step into the volley, and use the open space to increase pressure or finish the point.

The key is understanding that your first shot creates the opportunity, and your second shot takes advantage of it.

At higher levels, winning points isn’t always about hitting better shots. It’s about connecting them with the right decisions.

Create the problem. Take the net. Finish the job.

Hitting a 3-meter smash isn’t about how hard you can hit the ball. It’s about how efficiently you transfer power into the shot.

Here are 3 things I focus on:

1. Get behind the ball early.
Give yourself enough space to position your body sideways and make contact at the highest comfortable point.

2. Generate power from the ground up.
Use your legs, hips, and shoulder rotation to create an explosive movement. Your arm should be the final part of the sequence, not the only source of power.

3. Find the right contact point and angle.
Strike the ball slightly in front of your body with a high contact point, directing it into the court at an angle that allows it to bounce up and clear the 3-meter side fence.

The secret isn’t more strength. It’s better timing, cleaner contact, and efficient movement.

Once you understand the mechanics, you can generate serious power without forcing the shot.

Technique first. Power follows.

Only have 10 minutes before stepping on court? Make them count.

A proper warm-up isn’t about hitting as many balls as possible. It’s about preparing your movement, timing, and reactions before the first point.

Here are 3 on-court drills I focus on:

1. Mini Rally — 3 Minutes
Start close to the net with controlled exchanges. Focus on clean contact, finding your rhythm, and gradually increasing the pace.

2. Volley & Transition — 3 Minutes
Alternate between volleys and moving back to defend. Get your feet active, work on quick adjustments, and prepare your body for changes in direction.

3. Glass Defense & Overheads — 4 Minutes
Practice reading rebounds off the glass, recovering your position, and transitioning into bandejas and controlled overheads.

The goal isn’t to exhaust yourself before the match. It’s to feel sharp, comfortable, and ready from the very first point.

10 minutes. 3 drills. No wasted time.

Episode 1 | Creatine 🔋

Creatine has been a consistent part of my training routine for one reason: performance.

It supports repeated explosive efforts, helps with strength and power training, and allows me to maintain quality during high-intensity sessions — all things that translate directly to my game on court.

The key with creatine is consistency. It’s not about taking it right before training and expecting an instant boost; it’s about using it consistently as part of your overall training and nutrition routine.

And remember: before taking creatine or any other supplement, always consult with your doctor or a qualified healthcare professional to make sure it’s appropriate for you.

Train smart. Fuel smart. Stay consistent.

The perfect volley isn’t always the fastest one.

One of the most effective volleys is the one that bounces low, reaches the glass… and almost dies there.

Here are 3 things I focus on:

1. Cut underneath the ball.
Use a controlled slice to create backspin. The goal is to make the ball stay low after the bounce instead of kicking up off the glass.

2. Keep the trajectory low.
Too much height gives the ball energy to rebound off the wall. Keep it low and controlled so your opponent has to play from below the ball.

3. Control the speed.
Don’t confuse this shot with power. You want enough pace to reach the back glass, but not so much that it rebounds straight back into your opponent’s hitting zone.

When you combine the right spin, height and speed, the ball reaches the glass with very little energy left.

That’s what makes the volley so difficult to defend.

You don’t always need to hit harder.

Sometimes the best volley is the one that simply doesn’t come back.
