Last night crackled with magic. The opening night of an historic tour.
Mum giggling with excitement like she’s 19 again, me losing my mind when I realised that was Greg Phillinganes (musical director to Stevie and Michael Jackson for 30 years) on the keys, Stevie dueting with his son Mandla, and his daughter Aisha (the Isn’t She Lovely baby) singing backing vocals. The whole musical family on stage for the encore!
And every single song from Songs in the Key of Life, one of the greatest albums ever made, the tracks have been sampled well over 100 times in its 50 year existence.
This is what being in the room with greatness feels like. Celebration, love, and warmth. We live inside of art, all you have to do is buy the best ticket you can afford and sing along.
