Today I stood in front of a room of girls and told them: start from where you are.
One wants to be a lawyer. Several have books waiting to be written. All of them have a voice worth hearing.
I'm 18, a writer, an advocate and a soon-to-be scientist, and I'm proof that nobody has to give you permission to begin.

Black woman tells an Asian woman not to get double eyelid surgery just to remove her monolid. She looks good exactly the way she is. Asian eyes are beautiful. Monolids are beautiful. Asian features are beautiful the way they naturally are and there is no reason to change them for surgery just to fit someone else’s standards.
