This is Chioma. 🤍
She isn't vain. She was taught, for generations, that lighter skin means better. So she bought a cream from an unlabeled jar.
I'm not telling her not to bleach. I'm saying read the label, buy from NAFDAC-registered sources, and don't gamble your kidneys on an unregulated product.
Her skin was never the problem. Yours wasn't either.
I wrote the full essay on this, "Mercury in the Mirror." Read it on my Substack, link in bio.

Three people. One blocked gutter in Isale Koko. That conversation taught me more about climate communication than any textbook.
I just completed the She Leads Climate Mentorship Programme with WOMATE, Cohort 2, Class of 2026. 🌍✨
Along the way, I learned that science only matters when people can see their own lives in it. As a science communicator, that's the kind of work I want to keep doing: real science, in words people can use, ending with something they can do.
Thank you to the WOMATE team, the speakers, and my cohort sisters. 🤍
To every girl who thinks climate work isn't for her: it is. You belong in this room.

A far-away ocean is warming, and Nigeria's weather is paying attention. 🌍
El Niño isn't just a headline. It can change the rains, the harvests, and the prices at the market. We can't stop it, but we can stop being caught off guard.
Watch, share, and send it to someone who farms. 🫶

We all grab a cold nylon of sachet water without a second thought to beat the best, but when everyday survival conveniences hide heavy metals and contamination, who bears the burden? You don't need a lab test to stay safe, just trust your senses, check the taste, and stick to trusted local producers.

wrote "appear on TV" at the start of this year, and today I sat in a Kwara TV studio and spoke about the girl child.
No script. Just everything I've learned from the Children's Parliament, my trainings, my outreaches, and the girls I've met.
My biggest point? Girls don't always drop out loudly. They leave quietly, and we have to start noticing.
The full episode drops Wednesday. Set your reminders 🎬
Tag a girl who deserves to be heard. 💛

On Thursday, I stood in front of students in Kwara State and said thank you on behalf of every adolescent in our state.

The AGILE Project's commemoration of the International Day of the Girl Child 2026 carried the theme End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls' Rights. For me, it was more than a banner. It was a reminder that every girl who stays in school, learns a skill and finds a safe space is a future protected.

I spoke for the Kwara State Adolescent Network, and I made a promise: we will keep showing up. I meant every word.

Thank you to the AGILE Project, the Kwara State Government and our partners for the space. 🤍

Live on Diamond 88.7FM, and yes, I was nervous at first. 🎙️
For the International Day of the Girl Child segment, I spoke about harmful cultures still affecting girls, how child trafficking is not always obvious at first, and what child marriage does to a girl's body, including obstetric fistula when pregnancy comes before the body is ready.
Somewhere in the middle of it, the nerves faded and the message took over.
Girls deserve to be safe, schooled and heard. I will keep saying it, on air, in schools, everywhere.
Thank you, Diamond 88.7FM. 🤍

Went to the Kwara Creators Summit alone. Shy the whole way 😅
After the event, I told a public health official I want to be a science communicator, but it's still rare here and the few doing it are mostly lecturers out of public view.
He said: "Then be the first."
That line is staying in my notebook 📓
I also met Precious, a corper turning her service year into a WASH initiative, and finally met someone I had only ever chatted with online 🥹

@kwaracreators_summit Shy girls, go say hello. It might change your whole week.

Today I stood in front of a room of girls and told them: start from where you are.
One wants to be a lawyer. Several have books waiting to be written. All of them have a voice worth hearing.
I'm 18, a writer, an advocate and a soon-to-be scientist, and I'm proof that nobody has to give you permission to begin.
Happy Girl Child Day. 🤍

So what if you didn't have to choose?
I'm a writer. An advocate for children. A science student.
I'm a Kwara State Youth Ambassador for SAFIN, part of the Coalition to End Child Marriage in Nigeria, a UNICEF trained peer educator, and a U-Reporter.
And I found science communication. The thing that connects all of it.
For too long I waited. Waited for the right time, the right credentials, the right feeling. But ready is a decision, not a feeling.
So I'm starting now. Building publicly. Breaking down the science behind the things affecting us in Nigeria. The water. The climate. The injustices with chemical explanations.
No fancy setup. Just me, my chemistry background, and stories that won't stay silent.
If you believe young people belong at this table. If you believe starting imperfect beats waiting perfect. If you believe that science + storytelling can change how we understand the world.
Follow along. Let's build this together.
Weekly content on science communication starts next week.

There's a class system in Nigerian literature, and it has nothing to do with talent.
Self-published authors get dismissed before anyone even reads their work. And most literary awards won't even consider your book if it's not traditionally published.
Tag an indie Nigerian author whose work deserves way more recognition than they're getting.
