i’m currently training for my first T100 a 100km triathlon whilst trying to maintain my precious strength & muscle so the challenge isn’t just fitting everything in, it’s managing fatigue so one session doesn’t compromise the next
i’ve moved to an 8-day rotation rather than a traditional 7-day week, giving me more flexibility to distribute training stress and protect my key sessions
i’m also using my traffic light system to guide how i structure each day
🔴 red: high intensity or high muscular demand, threshold runs, turbo intervals and heavy strength
🟠 orange: longer aerobic sessions, lower intensity but still a considerable recovery demand
🟢 green: easy aerobic work and technique sessions, keeping overall fatigue low
the aim is to alternate higher and lower stress days where possible, rather than accumulating moderate levels of fatigue every single day
this is particularly important with concurrent training, where we’re trying to develop strength and endurance simultaneously, because session order and recovery can influence the quality of subsequent sessions
it’s not a perfect split, and there’s always going to be some overlap when you’re training across multiple disciplines, but the goal is to be more intentional with where fatigue accumulates 🤷🏼♀️
