Another year to treasure, and a little more to be grateful for🤍

Every year reminds me of how much there is yet to learn, how many stories are waiting to be told, and how much of the world there is left to discover. I feel blessed to be growing alongside a dream that has already given me more than I could have ever imagined, with so many more lives to live through the characters I play and so many stories I hope to bring to life.

My heart is full of love for the people who have made my world beautiful, especially those who have become family along the way. To the ones who couldn’t be here and may not have made it into the pictures, you were very much a part of my day and will always have a special place in my heart.

7 year old Aadhya would be proud of where we are today. And what a beautiful thought it is to know that this is only the beginning, that there is still so much more to explore and experience along the way. The world has only known about our pregnancy for a few weeks, and I’m already feeling a shocking and sickening exhaustion from the thousands of comments like these that we’re receiving daily.

First, take a moment to let the staggering applause for Sharon sink in. She left this comment on Hannah’s “first trimester recap,” which generally includes giddy photos of the two of us gleefully geeking about the early stages of parenting. A few days later, Sharon’s comment has 50,000 likes and counting.

Let me be very clear: Sharon sucks. It takes a particularly wretched and disgusting personality to feel comfortable commenting negatively on a happy couple’s pregnancy update. I feel no desire or obligation to extend her grace, but I do acknowledge (and pity) that her underlying beliefs about disability and parenting probably stem from a lack of understanding and experience.

So what, exactly, is Sharon not understanding?

Two main things.

1- A physical disability, even one as severe as mine, does not preclude someone from physically engaging with their child or the world around them. Of course, adaptations are needed. Creativity is needed. I’ll push a stroller with my adaptive stroller attachment instead of my arms. I’ll use an extra pillow or supports to keep the baby safely on my lap. When baby becomes a toddler, I’ll give rides on my wheelchair, rather than carrying them in my arms. We know hundreds if not thousands of disabled parents with a wide range of physical function. They have found brilliant and practical solutions to enable physical care for their children in so many beautiful ways. Chris Pratt is looking back at the unlikely moment that launched his Hollywood career, and it all starts while he was living in a van in Hawaii and waiting tables at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company.

The actor recalls approaching actress Rae Dawn Chong when she walked into the restaurant. She asked if he can act, and Pratt jumped at the opportunity. Days later, he got a call about auditioning for her movie, despite never having read a script before.

He landed the role, but there was one problem: The movie was filming in Los Angeles, and Pratt had just $60 to his name, a bag of clothes, and some rollerblades.

Chong offered to fly him out, giving him the break that eventually leads to "Parks and Recreation," "Guardians of the Galaxy," and a career as one of Hollywood's biggest stars.

Pratt says he'll forever be grateful to Chong for taking a chance on a kid working at a shrimp restaurant.
