World Algae Day was this week, so we’re taking a closer look at some of the algae living in Lake Tahoe.

At the Lake Tahoe campus, research assistant professor Carina Seitz of the Tahoe Institute for Global Sustainability is studying how particles like these affect the lake’s clarity. She uses an Image Flow Cytometer to examine each one in detail. Swipe to meet a few of them.
