Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for Resist to Exist: The Mura Struggle for Corporate Accountability and Environmental Justice in the Brazilian Amazon.
We’re grateful to our panelists, who traveled from Brazil to share their stories: Prof. Fernanda Bragato (UFRGS), Quezia Martins Chaves (CIMI), and Mura leaders Ana Claudia Dos Santos Mendes and Filipe Gabriel Da Silva E Silva.
Our partners at the Lenape Center, Joe Baker and Hadrien Coumans, honored our guests with a meaningful gift from the Lenape Center.
And a special thank you to our students and alumni of the HRAP Clinic for their work on this project and for meeting the Mura leaders in person. Current students Allie Pujol (‘27), Alec Bogash (‘27), and Camila Cabrera Salazar (‘27), and alumni Jeffrey Rula (‘26), Krista Jones (‘26), Soraya Mazarei (‘26), and Brett Jones (‘23). LLM student Thomas Faria ('26) also generously volunteered to interpret on behalf of our guests. The event wouldn’t have been possible without any of you.
The Mura’s fight to exist and remain on their lands is far from over, and neither is our commitment to stand with them. Hearing directly from Ana Claudia and Filipe Gabriel reminded us that behind every legal question are people, families, and a way of life that has endured for generations. We are honored to stand with the Mura, and we hope last night’s conversation carries forward into action, in classrooms, courtrooms, and communities.
