This story is DARK, but what makes it even more unsettling is how believable it is. Unfortunately, this could be someone’s real-life story.
At around 70%, I had to pause reading to tell my partner who I thought the murderer was. I WAS SO WRONG. I would not make a great detective. This book definitely keeps you guessing.
The story is told through dual POVs: Sofia, a mother, and Kate, the young girl who died. The short chapters keep the story moving while dropping enough hints to keep you guessing without giving too much away. I also loved how distinct the voices were. Kate genuinely sounded like a teenager, while Sofia’s perspective felt that of an adult.
My only real disappointment was the final twist. Rather than leaving me screaming, “WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!”, it was more of an “Oh… that actually makes sense” moment.
One thing I absolutely loved was Sofia’s unwavering love and protectiveness towards Kate. It beautifully showed just how far a parent’s love can go. ❤️
⭐ 3.75 stars.
