I’m a big fan of horror novels and movies, but this year I’m thinking about books that could come across as horror but that aren’t actually in the genre or marketed that way.

My first thought, based on the book cover alone was one of my favorites of this year so far: “Long Live Evil” by Sarah Rees Brennan. Sure, it’s gory and there are evil acts, but there’s more to it than that.

I sough suggestions on BookThreads, and what you see in the image is a few of the suggestions I received.

What books would you suggest?

I’m in a musical production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the moment. I agree, it’s horrific!!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory could totally be a horror. I mean look what happened to all those kids!
