During the 2024 NFL Draft process, the New York Giants met with both Drake Maye, the North Carolina quarterback, and Jayden Daniels, the LSU quarterback, at the NFL Scouting Combine. Giants head coach Brian Daboll tested Maye on football terminology, and Maye answered quickly, showing how comfortable he was discussing the game. The Giants were doing their homework on a quarterback class that had several potential franchise players.

Jayden Daniels described his meeting with the Giants’ coaching staff as energetic, saying they handed him a clicker and got straight into talking football. Daniels said he enjoyed the conversation because he was passionate about the game and liked breaking it down with coaches. The interview gave the Giants a chance to learn more about his football knowledge and personality beyond his performances at LSU.

New York held the sixth overall pick and explored whether it could move up in the draft to select a quarterback. General manager Joe Schoen even spoke with the New England Patriots about the possibility of trading for the third pick, which the Patriots ultimately used to select Drake Maye. The Giants stayed at No. 6 and selected wide receiver Malik Nabers, while Jayden Daniels went second overall to Washington.
