When will I get home? Will I even get home alive? These are the questions Palestinians in the West Bank ask themselves every time they get in the car to commute. What should be a 20-minute drive can now take several hours. I was in the West Bank recently. There are close to a thousand of these obstacles scattered across a territory smaller than Delaware. Numbers alone cannot capture what this apartheid system inflicts. It steals hours and days from people’s lives, separates families, deprives students of education and workers of livelihoods, and obstructs access to life-saving health care.
