My course is live! This 2 PDU self-paced course is relevant for occupational therapy professionals, students, and honestly any healthcare professional.Ā

Course 1 - Racism in the Context of Human Occupation.Ā To effectively provide occupational therapy services, we must acknowledge how racism affects our service users and their ability to engage in occupation. This 2-hour course will cover history, terminology, and strategies to undo this harm.

Course 2 - Food as Medicine: Complementary and Alternative Medicine for Occupational Therapy in Reducing Health Disparities.Ā This 2-hour course will cover OTs role in wellness, prevention, and health maintenance through food and complementary and alternative medicines. By understanding racial health disparities and our health education role, we can lessen these gaps. I would highly recommend taking the 1st course to better understand racial health disparities and our role in this work.

ā€œThis is the best panel I’ve ever attended.ā€

This past Thursday, we centered mental health and the human side of tech with Caring for the Mental Health of Your Team and Yourself at #SFTechWeek. 314 RSVPs, 59 interested, and so many personal messages about how much this topic matters.

Our panelists shared real stories from leading through things that don’t resolve on a roadmap:
• Showing up through a serious medical event, and what made it possible to keep working
• Being the first to speak up, and making it safer for the next person
• Being honest with teams about AI uncertainty without causing panic
• How much of yourself you can bring to work, and what psychological safety actually looks like

What stayed with me most was how many people told us afterward it helped them think through their own work situations and the future of their careers. The real-life impact is why we do this.

Thank you to @hudliao, Gretchen Libby, Sonika Singal and Ahmad Zahran for your honesty.

We couldn’t have done this without @hksyed and all the volunteers helping plan and set up this event.

Can you build a billion-dollar company without compromising your values?

Photography šŸ“ø by @arbassa

Standing room only at @techforpalestine's #SFTechWeek fireside chat with @rami.elghandour (CEO, Arcellx, $7.8Bn Exit) as he shared his experiences speaking out against injustice in America as well as the genocide in Palestine, while building a multibillion-dollar company.

A powerful conversation on courage, leadership, and the cost of speaking up in tech.

Shout-out to the @techforpalestine team (@hksyed, @otbayarea, @mshalaco, @arbassa, @autumn.aw, and so many more)

Special thanks to @cafe_zamaan for providing coffee service.

A lot of advice for executive dysfunction assumes you haven’t already tried it.

Not on the List is a podcast from To Do-ish sharing conversations with clinicians about executive function, support, and the things we don’t talk about.

In this episode, Shelby Nolan, LPC, talks about why neurodivergent clients often seek out neurodivergent clinicians, and why a strategy can land differently depending on who’s recommending it and whether they understand why the last one didn’t work.

Most mental health advice assumes the hard thing ends.

Sometimes it doesn’t. A war. A new diagnosis. Postpartum. And you still have a team depending on you.

On October 8 in downtown San Francisco, tech leaders and founders talk about what they actually do, not what they’re supposed to say. Hudson Liao @asiansarestrong, Gretchen Libby @amazonwebservices, Sonika Singal @accenture. I’m moderating. More speakers announced soon.

Free. Dinner, panel, tea, and real conversations.

Part of #SFTechWeek, hosted with @asianmentalhealthproject and @todoish.app.

I spent the weekend with my colleague at OT Bay Area, Caroline, at the Stanford Neurodiversity Summit. We work remotely and travel to people’s homes, so I rarely get to see her in person. I’m still decompressing and processing. Conferences, even ones meant to be neuroinclusive, are overstimulating and intersectionality continues to be an add on, never centered.

There were many brilliant presenters and this one hit me the hardest. Piracanjuba, Autistas Brasil, and Ampfy presented an ā€œautistic-led model of partnership between a company, an advocacy organization, and a creative agency that turned everyday product packaging (60 million milk cartons per month, reaching 9 out of 10 Brazilian households) into accurate, community-authored information about autism.ā€

While the president of our country mocks disabled people, spreads dangerous misinformation, and dismantles services and research for the most vulnerable Americans, a dairy company in Brazil is using their products and platform to educate people about autism. They shared how one person’s story influenced systemwide changes that helped even more.

What they committed to and the difference they’ve made in Brazil is beautiful. Their deep care and actions to follow made me tearful. I don’t see this happening in the near future in this country, but I know a lot of people like Caroline and me who show up on our days off to learn how to be better clinicians and people. Executive dysfunction isn't always ADHD.

When someone says "I can't get started," "I can't focus," or "I can't finish anything," the answer is usually more complicated than a single diagnosis.

Not on the List is a new podcast from To Do-ish sharing conversations with clinicians about executive function, support, and the things we don't talk about.

In episode one, Dr. Shayla Buckler, a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, explains why difficulty with planning, motivation, sleep, and follow-through deserves a whole-person assessment rather than a rush to a label.

Episode one is out now @todoish.app

Most mental health advice assumes the hard thing ends. Sometimes it doesn't. A war. A chronic illness. A new diagnosis. Postpartum. Something you carry with you that won't resolve on any roadmap you can build. And you still have a company to run, a team depending on you, and investors to report to.

Join me on Wed 10/7 at SF Tech Week for a mental health panel with tech leaders sharing their experiences with supporting team and their own long-term mental health.

Free to attend. Dinner provided.
