More care, closer to home for Tri-Valley families! 💙

Sutter Health recently celebrated the opening of its new Pleasanton Care Complex, a 64,000-square-foot facility bringing a wide range of specialty services together under one roof.

From orthopedics and gastroenterology to ophthalmology, urology, imaging and more, the new complex is designed to make care more convenient, connected and accessible for patients and families. An ambulatory surgery center is also expected to open in January 2027.

Thank you to the Sutter teams, community leaders and everyone who helped bring this new space to life! Together, we're expanding access to high-quality, coordinated care closer to where patients live and work. 🎉

“Solo trips won’t be possible. Not for two to three years. Not until you’ve earned my parents’ trust.”

This was said by a 32-year-old man who has been attending feminist protests since college.

He was the easiest client I had onboarded in a long time. Equal pay rallies. Safety protests. Women’s rights marches. He wanted a partner who was independent, had her own career, her own mind. I remember thinking, finally, this man.

We introduced him to a woman who works in publishing and takes a solo trip every year. Ladakh. Vietnam. Georgia. It is a big part of who she is and she told him that on their very first call.

That is when he said it.

She laughed because she thought he was joking. He was not. She called me right after and said, I have met conservative men before. But he is the first one who quoted feminist theory to me and then told me I would need permission.

I called him. Asked if he was serious. He said, look, if it were a love marriage I would have made my parents understand. But this is arranged. They also have some expectations.

Here is what I have come to respect about our parents’ generation. They were wrong about many things. But they believed what they believed. There was no performance. You knew exactly who you were dealing with.

What worries me about some men of our generation is different. Social media has taught them exactly what to say. The right words. The right posts. The right causes. They march for it. They share it. They correct others for it.

But the real test is not a protest. It is not a post. It is what a man does when his own mother sits at the dining table and says hamare ghar mein aisa nahi hota. That is where, for so many men, the feminism quietly dies.

Because standing up to strangers on the internet is easy. Standing up to your own family is the actual test. And most men who pass the first one have never had to take the second.

Coming home these days is so bittersweet. I come with excitement in my heart, grateful beyond words that I still have my mother to come home to. But somewhere between that gratitude and the reality of what is, my heart breaks a little more each time.
My mom is so different now. Sometimes it feels like I’m talking to a stranger, desperately searching for the woman I’ve known and loved my entire life. I still get glimpses of the old Susan… maybe an hour total throughout the day, if I’m lucky. And Lord, how I cherish those moments. 🥺 i spend so much of my time home fighting back tears, trying to be present, trying to be strong, trying to accept what I cannot change.
This particular trip was special for reasons I’ll keep close to my heart. And maybe that’s why reality hit a little harder this time. Because the moments I once imagined sharing with my mother look nothing like I thought they would. It’s a strange kind of heartbreak to miss someone who’s sitting right in front of you. I don’t take a single day for granted. But I would be lying if I said my heart wasn’t hurting.

Lord, please help my heart and my mind. Give me the strength to embrace who she is today while holding on to the beautiful woman I’ve always known. And help me find peace in the moments that don’t look the way I prayed they would. 🙏🏽
