BLOEM CERAMICS

Hi! I’m Jenny, the artist behind BLOEM Ceramics. Here’s a little bit about myself so we can get to know each other!
1. I was born and raised in Austin, Texas, where I currently live with my husband, Jonathan, and our two Boston terriers, Finn and Izzy (pictured here!). My little family is the joy of my life.
2. I started my ceramics journey at 16, learning functional pottery on the wheel - I hoped to pursue it in college, but opted for a “sensible” path (here I am, 16 years later!).
3. I left my corporate job earlier this year to pursue a creative career full time; best decision I have ever made for my both my mental health and my own sense of purpose and fulfillment. I had always felt like a square peg in a round hole, and it feels so wonderful to be pursuing something truly aligned with who I am.
4. Right after I left my job, my husband and I took a trip to the Netherlands during tulip season - I’d visited as a child, and had been wanting to go back for decades. Walking through literal miles of tulip fields was the most restorative and inspiring experience. I chose the name “Bloem” (dutch for flower) in honor of that experience that helped me reconnect with myself.
5. When I first started out as a potter, glazing was my least favorite part of the process. While it’s still a leap of faith (that comes with all sorts of fun of its own), it’s become my favorite. For me, it’s where the magic happens. The excitement that comes with a kiln opening makes me feel like a kid every single time.
