Of course I liked Digger. So, I won’t beat you up about it. Iñárritu makes movies that are very coded to what I like, and Digger is no different. So, I’ll simply say that you should go see this in the theater. Because this is a movie theater movie if there ever was one. It’s bold and audacious. And, it takes a pretty big Brechtian swing with a mid-film twist. For me, it worked. But, that’s because it used my favorite framing device in storytelling. If you can hang with the twist, you’ll love the movie. If you love Dr. Strangelove, I think you’ll like this movie. And, I’m not sure if anyone could have pulled off this role better than Tom Cruise, who absolutely killed it as our eponymous “hero”. I dug @diggerthemovie. You should too.
