Teaching Rocky what the e-collar means.
We’re starting with a command he already knows: sit. We pair low-level stimulation with the cue and reward the correct response, turning the stimulation off as soon as he completes the behaviour.
The goal is for Rocky to understand that the sensation is a communication signal that helps reinforce what we’re asking of him, rather than a command on its own.
Once he understands that association, we can layer it onto his other commands to reinforce known behaviours and communicate expectations as we teach new ones.
The takeaway? The e-collar isn’t about correcting a dog for getting things wrong. It’s about teaching the dog what the communication means, building a clear understanding of expectations, and creating consistency between the handler and the dog.
Clarity before complexity. Communication before expectations.
