Escobar’s family immigrated to the U.S. from Honduras in the late 1970s. Despite hard work and a steady job, traditional lenders were unable to help with refrigerator repair costs.
With few options left, Escobar’s father turned to his community. By organizing a susu, a generations-old savings practice in which members pool money and take turns receiving the funds, he raised enough for a replacement.
The experience stayed with Escobar. In 2021, he found a way to bring a susu into the digital age. 🧑🏾💻💚 #HispanicHeritageMonth
